The lure of the great Aussie shed

Posted on Thursday, October 01 2009 at 9:00 AM

Who chooses a property based on the shed in the backyard? Most Aussie men, according to a recent Bankwest survey.

Bankwest surveyed more than 1400 people nationwide on the cultural significance and use of sheds, unsurprisingly finding that 90 per cent of shed users are male.

But for property investors the interesting finding was that 70 per cent of the Australian men surveyed said the shed was an important consideration when buying or renting a new house.

Nearly one in three men reported they used their shed as a “refuge”. And why not, given 36 per cent of men have installed a stereo and one in four have decked it out with a bar fridge.
