Renovate, relocate or detonate?

Families facing the decision of whether to move house, renovate or remove their existing home and rebuild may find today’s economic climate favours renovating or rebuilding, according to Archicentre.

For those who live in the right place but in a house that doesn’t suit their needs, renovation or detonation may be the right answer, Archicentre Queensland state manager Ron Tanton says.

“Building has been expensive over the last few years, however with the current economic climate and low interest rates, renovation or building a new home is an attractive financial proposition,” Tanton suggests.

He says a renovation or new home can offer the appeal of a new lifestyle in the same location.

However, he warns that large renovation projects can be “very disruptive to family life” if the family is living in the property.

Relocating is probably the easiest option to consider but perhaps the most costly, Tanton notes.
