Couples take joint approach to property

Buying property is a joint decision for most couples, according to a PRDnationwide poll that found both partners are involved in the decision-making process in 65 per cent of households

However, 19 per cent of respondents said it was the male partner who made property purchasing decisions and 16 per cent said it was the female.

PRDnationwide research director Aaron Maskrey says buying property is a big decision and therefore it's rarely left in the hands of one person.

"Real estate agents spend a lot of time trying to attract both partners," he says.

The poll also investigated what motivated people when buying an apartment, with nearly half of respondents (44 per cent) nominating proximity to the CBD as the most important factor.

This was followed by waterfront locality (24 per cent) and outlook (23 per cent).
