Rental growth tipped to slow
Posted on Tuesday, June 23 2009 at 2:13 PM
While investors have been reaping the benefits of growing rents throughout Australia, RP Data research analyst Cameron Kusher suggests the rate of growth is likely to ease.
Kusher believes there's good news ahead for renters.
"I believe we'll witness an easing of rental increases in the coming months," he says.
"The main reason being that first homebuyers are so active and this is clearly going to impact on the rental market."
"Secondly, younger adults are likely to delay any decision to move out of the parents' house at the moment if possible."
Kusher says rising unemployment and uncertainty among the currently employed will prevent younger people from buying and moving into their own place.
