Help us make a difference...
Australian Property Investor magazine proudly supports the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and their families.
API magazine assists the Starlight Children’s Foundation by funding individual wishes for children, under the Starlight Wishgranting program.
As an example of what we (and our readers) are making possible, the Starlight Children's Foundation provided us with the following feedback on some recent wishes API funded:
Lara
Lara is a 17 year old girl who lives with spina bifida, hydrocephalus and epilepsy. Lara has always lived in Queensland and her wish was to have a holiday in the snow with her family. Lara, her Mum and Dad and little sister flew to Canberra, where they were taken by limousine to the resort at Smiggins. They were kitted out with the skiing gear when they arrived.
The next seven days were spent learning to ski, toboggan and indulge in huge snow fights. Dad and sister Emma even managed some skiing lessons. They stayed in a wonderful lodge where their needs were catered for all week.
Two other families were also granted snow wishes that week by Starlight. What this meant for Lara was that she had the opportunity to spend time with other teenagers who have similar challenges to her own. Not only did Lara's wish come true, but she made a special friend that she now stays in contact with.
Michael
Michael is a 14-year-old boy who loves trucks, trains and tractors. He also enjoys swimming and loves watching TV, in particular Sesame Street and cartoons.
But Michael is different to other 14 year old boys in that he also has Autism, and suffers from Scoliosis and Myopia. Michael also has decreased mobility which is related to Cerebral Palsy.
Due to his varying conditions and recent major surgery, Michael requires a high level of support and care. As a result, he is often house-bound. So when Starlight asked Michael what he wanted more than anything else, he said he wished for a large TV and DVD player so he could enjoy his time at home watching his favourite films and TV shows.
Danielle
Danielle is 15 years old and loves music, gymnastics and belly dancing. She is currently being treated for osteosarcoma, or bone cancer.
Her wish for a bedroom makeover has now come true. Her new room now features a custom-made four poster bed, all new furniture, linen, cushions, rugs, curtains and loads of stylish accessories to make her bedroom the haven she's always dreamed of.
We invite all API readers to assist this very worthy cause in any way you can.
